Hi,
I've started working with System Explorer and very pleased. Have used Prio and Sys Reqs in the past. Those are no comparison to comprehensiveness of System Explorer.
I have one question about the CPU process data column. The User Guide refers to that CPU data as the same funcitonality as in Task Manager, i.e.: as a %. My challenge or user blind spot is that in my CPU data column under Processes, I get a whole integrer, current 1 through 6, on processes that are active.
What am I missing? How do I get that CPU data back to a %?
Ideas? Suggestions?
Thanks
John

Hi, I find performance tab is useful in finding the process that was using my system time, at some point in the past. Unfortunately, the performance meters seem to arbitrarily disappear from time to time, especially when the performance tab is not selected. Then when then start up again they suddenly start over again, but I cannot see which process was hogging the system because the performance meters don't show any history. I hope there can be some way to keep the performance meters running so I can find that bad process that was hogging my system time.

I use System Explorer 1.6 Beta 1 to end task on programs. While trying to print from a web page, I had extensive external disc activity and printer wouldn't output anything. I saw a task, DWM.EXE, running with which I had no knowledge of why it was "running". I attempted to 'end task' and it would not end. I tried CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up Task Manager and did not see DWM.EXE running although it still appeared on System Explorer. Can someone explain this?

This software is growing and the new 2.0 version seems to be very good. I'll include it in my Suite when will be stable. I have some requests and advices to do: - in Help: "Product History" and "Product Support" don't work. - in Software: a good additional feature could be process scheduling at the system startup (to improve performance). - in Uninstallers: you could add some columns as Version, Installation Date, Installation Folder, WebSite. - in Uninstallers: "UNinstaller File Name" could be fixed in "Uninstaller File Name" (note also that now this column show, for some software, the uninstallation command instead of the uninstaller file name.. you could need to fix it and eventually add a different column to show Uninstallation Command). - in Uninstallers: you could think to show by default the Installation Folder instead of the Uninstaller File Name. - I think Internet Explorer and Explorer groups of the left menu are less important than Software and could be moved after it. - in Startup: a good feature could be the ability to add and remove processes at startup, not only enable or disable existent items. - in Processes: I don't know what commands it use, but DTaskManager (a small out-of-date task manager) is allowed to End, to Quit, to Kill and to Kill Override processes. It is a very useful feature, because sometimes end process doesn't work and is needed to kill it. - in Performance: why the graphic proceed from left to right and not from right to left? I think it could be better if inverted. - you could add also a Shutdown group in the left menu, with advanced features for system shutdown (try Shutter v2.90, a very good tool by den4b.com). I don't like the new v3.0 they are working on, but this v2.90 has many useful features combined with many useful events (so you can for example shutdown computer at the end of a process, or after N minutes).

I like system explorer as a task manager replacement. I do have a feature request. Can the authors add the capability of selecting multiple processes at once rather than just one at a time? I think this would be a useful additional feature.
Thanks!

I use Windows Task Manager for one simple reason. To find the most CPU intensive process and kill it. When I discovered System Explorer 1.0, I found it was great because it could do everything Task Manager could do and show me many additional details about my processes. I was very happy using it.
Unfortunately, when I upgraded to 1.5, I lost the ability to find the most CPU intensive process because some kind of tree structure was added to the process list. This removed the ability to sort by CPU cycles, and made it very difficult to find the most CPU intensive process. I don't care about a tree structure, I just want to find the most CPU intensive process and kill it! I can no longer use System Explorer because of this ridiculous new 'feature'. I am sorry to say I have switched back to Windows Task Manager.

I see.... and I was supposed to find this among the 18 menus that are present when I start up System Explorer???
Yes I just counted them, there are 18 menus/boxes/tabs/etc for me to click at the top of the window. Frankly, I could not even see the View menu hidden amongst all of these options. You might think that a view menu is the obvious place to look for this option, but that does not help when I did not even know it was there until you just pointed it out. This "feature" was so frustrating that I had switched back Windows Task Manager for several months because of this!
Please... make no tree the default, or, put an obvious button that toggles the tree on or off... Why do I care about the tree structure anyway??

Your program would give of a better impression to new users if it could display the icons better. At the moment, you don't display icons that have transparency in them properly.
Icons made for windows can have 5 color types - monochrome (1 bit), 16 colors (4 bits), 256 indexed colors (8 bits), 16.8 Million 'TrueColor' (24 bits), and 16.8 Million 'Windows XP Colors with Alpha Channel' (32 bits). It appears that your program will always try and display the highest bit color depth icon that is available. In most cases, this will be XP Colors (32 bits), of which the icons are likely to contain transparency.
The problem is that your program doesn't display the transparency properly - the icons will either be distorted, or contain black solid color in place of any transparent regions. This applies to both the 16x16 icons displayed in the main lists, as well as the 32x32 icon displayed in file info / drop zone.
Since this program is still being actively developed, please consider fixing the icons for the future releases. I'm a new user currently testing out the program, and so far I like what I see. Keep up the good work!

Great app, less RAM than SysInternals Process Explorer, but missing two key features + one new feature that would be fantatsic:
- show process info in systray tooltip (esp. most hogging process ;-) - restore option (to bring program to the fore when minimized to tray and explorer crash loses tray icon (Process Explorer does this well for most apps; some don't allow) - restore icons to system tray after explorer crash (PS Tray Factory does this, but never found anything decent for free to do such an apparently small and presmably simple task).
Cheers ..!
